mRing can play standard Treo polyphonic ring tones (MIDI files) and WAV sounds.

If you have installed the latest mRing on your device, you may also use MP3 files without any additional software.

Apparently, there is a bug in the Treo's address book application (Contacts) - it doesn't initialize its database correctly and when you launch mRing it tries to access this un-initialized database and crashes. The difficulty here is that we cannot initialize the contacts database, since it is 'owned' by a different app (Contacts).

However, there is a work around for this. Go to you contacts and add or modify some of its categories (for example, add a new category, or delete an existing one that you no longer use). After this, Contacts will repair its database, and mRing will work correctly.

To assign ring tone or image for category, contact or system event, tap on the desired entry in the table or use the 5-way navigation keys to highlight it and press the center key. The Configuration form will appear.
On the configuration form you can select ring tone for phone calls and for SMS, and also assign appropriate image. In order to assign ring tone or image tap on one of the "Add" buttons at the bottom of the screen and navigate to the desired file.

You can also define system ring tones in the same way. To switch between category, contact and system ring tone selection, use three buttons on the bottom of the mRing main screen.

If you are using Butler's Two Key Answer feature together with mRing, it may not allow you to answer or reject incoming calls. To avoid this issue, disable the Phone Keyguard (Two Key Answer) option in Butler.

Also, both Hobbyist Software and MotionApps are aware of this issue and are working on implementing a fix.

If cannot accept the call, you can choose to ignore it and send SMS to the contact. When you press "Tap to ignore with SMS", the call will be ignored and Compose SMS screen will pop up with a caller number in the "TO" field.

Volume and vibration options are configured through the profiles. You can configure these options by selecting General > Profiles.

Note that if a contact/category is marked as VIP or mute mRing will use VIP settings or stay silent regardless of the currently active profile.

If you select "No Profile" as the active profile in mRing, mRing will use the Treo system volume settings instead of profiles.

You can follow this procedure in order to install MIDI ring tones to your Treo:

Copy the .mid file to your SD card.
In Blazer you should be able to enter the URL, file:///path/to/file.mid

For example:
File not in a directory: file:///file.mid
File in a directory: file:///dir/file.mid
File in a subdirectory: file:///dir1/dir2/file.mid

Then just choose save. Also, you can rename the tone if you like. The new tone will now be available in the Treo ring tones database.

You can remove all mRing settings by selecting General > Advanced from the main application menu. Then you can select which settings to remove and tap "Apply Selection".

mRing supports images up to the 1280x1024 resolution; however, we are highly recommend assigning images with 320x320 or 640x480 resolution, considering that larger resolution can slow down the phone dialog.

This issue occurs when you are trying to register a new version of the application with the registration code for earlier versions you purchased and vice versa.

Error code #10A can occur when your device does not have internet connection available, when internet connection is malfunctioning for some reason or if you tried to activate while we were running maintenance of our web site. In all three cases, please try to activate again later.

Also, in order to activate you can use the internet connection on your desktop computer. Please note that you will need to have ActiveSync installed on your desktop computer. Connect your device to the desktop computer by USB sync cable, run the application and choose the "Activate" option from the menu and an activation form will appear. mRing will look for the ring tones in the My Documents folder in main memory of your phone and in any folders on the SD card.

If you remove your SD card rarely, the best place for ring tones is some folder on SD card because this saves the space in main memory. However, if you are switching between multiple SD cards, you may wish to store ring tones in /My Documents/My Ringtones folder in main memory.

To activate manually, please follow this procedure:

1. Start the application
2. Select "Activation" from the main menu
3. Insert your activation code (in the form of 5 capital letters - XXXXX)
4. Click OK
5. mRing will attempt to connect to the Internet and you should click Cancel
6. On the next screen, there will be "Manual Activation" option
7. Your User-ID will be displayed on the next form (XXXXX-XXXXXXXX-RIM)
8. User ID (from the step 7) and your e-mail address insert on our website http://www.motionapps.com/support/index.jsp using your PC and press Submit
9. Your unlocking key will be displayed
10. Now you can continue with the activation process on your device. On the device screen (from the step 7) press OK
11. Enter your unlocking key (xxxxxxxx)

To do this, you would need to select Profile icon in mRing main screen and select a profile you wish to customize.

Set Volume and Vibration and just exit the profile. mRing will remember the settings.

To do this, select mRing Profiles icon and just select the profile you wish to use as active. mRing will automatically set this profile as active.
